Description

Event manager should be able to configure whether users can or cannot send a mail to a chairman, from the web interface, without logging in (currently they need to log in).

Dear Iain,

We've discussed this problem, and agreed that there should be some
configuration option in the conference management area, that enables or
disables the protection mechanism for this particular feature. We are
willing to implement this ASAP, but we are currently overwhelmed with
work (there's a new version of Indico in the horizon). We've added it to
our task list, and will let you know when it has been implemented.

Thanks, once again, for the feedback,

Best regards,

Pedro Ferreira

Dear Iain,

This is indeed a good question, since there are several factors
involved:

  • We assume that people will want to have an external account, since

it's the only way they can correct possible mistakes during the
registration process, and be added as submitter, granted privileges,
etc...

  • We must not forget that a form of this nature is a direct connection

to their e-mail address, that can be exploited sometimes in not very
nice ways. Having an authentication mechanism prevents those dangers to
a certain extent;

  • On the other hand, as you say, I do not need to have a CERN account

(normal or external) in order to register for a conference. So, why
should I need one if I want to mail the organizers?

I will discuss it with the rest of the team, and we'll let you know
ASAP.

Thanks a lot for your feedback,

Best regards,

Pedro Ferreira

Hello,

We have created a conference on indico (http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDis...
)

However, if an interested person click on one of the chairs (to email
the organisers) they are directed to a login page:

https://login.cern.ch/adfs/ls/Login...

For a public service this not very useful since not all of our
attendees have or more importantly want a CERN account. Can this be
made public....
