Re-evaluate "show past events"'s behaviour

Description
It is currently a bit of a pain trying to access e.g. events from the last month. You have to click "show past events" and it can take a bit to load the first batch (even if it's much faster now than before).
So, we should consider whether to for instance load the last month by default, or find a way to get it quickly displayed.
